I've noticed that Htrae still seems to harbor quite a lot of discrimination and racism against a few races. It is kinda dark, but i think it overall makes the story a lot more interesting.

Kalia's relationship with Nimble is a sort of sisterly relationship, but Kalia doesn't spend the majority of her time in the temple. She spends more time either with Carpathia or with a nanny that lives a little while away.

Kalia initially doesn't like Nimble because of what happened to her father, but she starts to question her loyalty to him when Nimble points out that neither him nor his followers had bothered to save her when the ghost ships attacked.
